G418 Sulfate [Geneticin Sulfate] is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is used in biotechnology to select for and screen for cells that have been transformed with Geneticin resistant genes. It is also used to kill bacteria in cell culture media. G418 Sulfate is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. It works by binding to the ribosomes of bacteria and preventing them from synthesizing proteins. This eventually leads to the death of the bacteria.
